The Vienna airport is located 25 km south of the city. It takes approximately 25-35 minutes by car to the city centre. Some low cost airlines fly to the nearby Bratislava airport, located about 1 hour drive from Vienna.
Vienna Airport is very well connected to the city and traffic is seldomly a problem. There are buses, trains, express trains and taxis around the clock. For a quick overview on schedules and transportation, please check the Austrian Federal Railway website (http://www.oebb.at/en/ – use the button “Timetable”).
By City Airport Train (CAT): This express train connects the airport with the city centre with a non-stop ride. The CAT operates from the airport 06:09-23:39 and from the city 05:36-23:06 every 30 minutes. It takes 16 minutes to Landstrasse/ Wien Mitte (connection metro U3 and U4). Ticket vending machines can be found at the luggage hall at the airport or directly in the CAT stations. Costs at the ticket vending machines are €12.00 for a single ticket and €19.00 for a two-way ticket. If you buy the tickets online, you will receive a price reduction of one Euro. https://www.cityairporttrain.com/en/home
Several regional trains stop at the airport. Every 30 minutes there is one to the city centre (stop in Landstrasse/Wien Mitte, connection metro U3 and U4) or to the main train station (stop Hauptbahnhof, connection U1). You have to buy a 2-zone ticket for €4.40 that will be valid for 90 minutes including commute to any metro, bus or tram within Vienna. You can buy the ticket either at the staffed OEBB counter at the luggage hall at the airport or at the ticket vending machines at the stations.
The airport bus takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and final destination. There are three lines (VAL 1-3). VAL 1 & VAL 2 depart every 30 minutes and VAL 3 every hour from the bus terminal at the airport, towards different destinations in the city. VAL 3 has a stop at the congress centre. https://www.viennaairportlines.at/en/blog/1068
One-way tickets cost €8,00 and two-way tickets are €13,00. You can buy a ticket on the bus itself. For more information, please visit: https://www.viennaairportlines.at/en/
When leaving the airport arrival halls, please look for the signs for the nearest taxi stand. An average journey by taxi from the Vienna Airport to downtown takes about 20-30 minutes and costs approx. €35,00 to €45,00 one-way (incl. surcharge for the luggage, 3 people max.).
Only for the return transfer towards the airport you can ask for an “Airport Taxi” (or German “Flughafentaxi”). Depending on your pick-up point the taxi company will give you immediately the fix price.
Phone numbers of main taxi companies: +43 1 40100 or +43 1 31300.
To book a transfer in advance is highly recommendable and the companies will offer you fixed rates of around €35,00. Recommended agencies are:

Public transportation is by far the easiest way to get around the city. The Vienna buses, trams and subways are quick, cheap and all-around excellent. Friday to Sunday the metro services are 24h.
Please make sure to carry a valid ticket! Conductors do not hesitate to fine anyone € 103 without a valid ticket (being a tourist is not a valid excuse). Ticket machines can be found in each metro station.
If the weather is good, we recommend taking a bike from the public network.
